A DIETS SUCCESS IS ALL IN ITS PROOF

ARE YOU ONE OF THESE?
On Facebook you can join the Banting community and see what thousands have accomplished.

In the beginning I was quite skeptical because as we all know in a few years from now we will hear what the negative effects are on the body of a high protein diet. After all, I cannot but admire the thousands that have been brave enough to endure and reap the rewards of losing that extra weight they have been carrying around for years.

THE FATHER OF BANTING:

The diet has been named after William Banting a British undertaker who was the first person to follow this eating plan by a Harley Street surgeon in 1861, he experienced astonishing success.

Dr Robert Atkins re-discovered “Banting” in 1972, he also made a killing in the multibillion dollar weight loss industry with his “Atkins” diet. Professor Tim Noakes is the master mind behind the book The “Real Meal Revolution” which hyped the popularity of this diet.

WHAT IS BANTING DIET:

The Banting is a low-carbohydrate but high in fat diet. It is also gluten free which is highly important especially for those that are sensitive or allergic to gluten.

*The diet is all about a high in fat, medium protein and low carb way of eating.
*NO sugar not even artificial, none to very little fruit.
*No grains.
*Get ready to eat lots of eggs as they are very filling and healthy.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS?

  • YOU CAN WITH ENDURANCE SHRINK TO HALF YOUR SIZE.
  • Cutting carbs can have a great impact on your blood sugar which can improve and prevent diabetes symptoms.
  • You have a higher intake of healthy oils by using nuts, fish, coconut oil and avocados. These foods assist in the drop of triglycerides and a rise in healthy cholesterol which lowers the risk of heart disease.
  • No more bloating.

THE NEGATIVES ARE:

*YOU WILL NEED A NEW WARDROBE
*You might suffer from constipation because of the lower intake of fiber (drink more water and eat berries to prevent this).
*Low carbohydrate diets can hike your LDL cholesterol.
*Limited food choices.
*It is a little heavier on your pocket (post more articles and this problem will be sorted).
*Long term effects of this diet are unknown.
*Many in the health industry frown upon such a high protein diet and its long term effect on certain internal organs.

So... low-carb paleo? Welcome to 2005 South Africa! :D

That's a pretty weak post compared to how much of a boss Tim Noakes is by the way. The guy is science beast (Check "The Lore Of Running" if you're into jogging/running) who did a complete 180 once he realized his approach on nutrition was completely flawed. Not many researchers will do that.

Time will tell....if Tim Noakes is such a boss... there is a lot of controversy about his methods

About his methods maybe! But not about his results. Few, if any have zero success with his method. People lose fat, improve biomarkers and have greater quality of life. That it is achieved by diet alone should be marveled at, not laughed at.

Rectusfemoris thanks. You can use his eating plan as a guide and add or take away what you feel your body needs. People that couldn't lose weight for most of their lives are now experiencing success. It boils down to get to know your body, minimize your stress, get enough sleep, drink plenty of water and exercise daily.

Thank you for the information, will definitely look into it.

I noticed you recommend a high intake of eggs in this diet, and would warn that if not adequately cooked, one can rapidly develop Biotin deficiency (an essential vitamin) due to a protein called Avidin found in egg whites. Generally, eggs should be cooked thoroughly for at least four minutes at 85 degrees Fahrenheit to fully inactivate its biotin-binding capability. (If nothing else just keep that in mind!) Most authorities on health and nutrition would also advise against eating more than one egg per day for cholesterol reasons.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avidin

One should be extremely careful following any fad diet though, as generally speaking they tend to ignore the long term physiological consequences in favor of short term results. Quiet simply, a balanced caloric intake that is below your daily caloric expenditure is the safest path to reaching your health goals, and the benefits of a healthy diet are far greater than those which incur the detrimental health effects of most, if not all, fad diets.

Probably the most important negative you listed:
"*Many in the health industry frown upon such a high protein diet and its long term effect on certain internal organs."
Said frowning is for good reason.
Be healthy and happy, not skinny and sick!

It seems diets are like religions or politics these days. People can be fanatical and aggressive in discussion surrounding them. All I will say is that the only thing that has and still does work for me. Gives me tons of energy, takes away my heart burn and sheds the pounds is Very low sugar and very low carb. Eat as much organic non processed meat and vegis I want. Simple and it always works for me. Don't know what will work for you, good luck.

Thanks living-freedom. It sounds like you know your bodies needs and that is what is important. We are all different, we should listen to our bodies, it tells us when it is unhappy by becoming bloated and throws out all kinds of other signals.

We are what we eat :)

True, but sometimes for women hormones can play a vital role. Don't judge a book by its cover, get the complete story.

Thank you fernandosa.

It helps but I would also suggest u yoga along side this

It is 80%diet and 20%exercise. Always keep a balance.

liked it

sounds like Dukan's...

Most of these diets are very much the same with a tweak here and there.

may be you like it. i like idea)

some i try to deprive myself, but the crave in us usually denies us that fact . it is really tuff

It is not easy. You have to find the times when you snack and the stresses that cause it. Try to replace your snacks with more healthier ones.

Good Diet @gavvet

Thank you emarking

You forgot to say 'keep eating' ;)

Financialfreedom, agree 100%. Keep eating the right food and enjoy being healthy! Thanks

My God STEEM

Thanks for this article. I recently watched a nice set of interviews on YouTube with Tim Noakes about banting.

I decided to try Primal for about 4 years, and I stayed with it because it improved my quality of life. It's the best dietary change I've ever made! I'll post about that soon.
