I pretty like watching documentaries on Netflix and I found 'What The Health' there. The recent pro-vegan Netflix documentary, What the Health, is under fire from nutrition experts. It is is a 2017 documentary film which critiques the health impact of meat and dairy products consumption, and questions the practices of the leading health and pharmaceutical organizations. Its primary purpose is to advocate for a plant-based diet.
The Key Points The Documentary Point Out
- What the Health underlines several aspects of the American food system that are often criticized, including the amount of antibiotics used in agriculture, which is linked to growing health issues like antibiotic resistance. The documentary also highlights the financial relationships between food industry companies and national public health groups.
For example, the result was found out - points out that companies like Kraft, Dannon, Oscar Mayer and more—which sell processed foods high in fat, sodium or sugar like mac and cheese, hot dogs and flavored yogurt—are sponsors of the American Diabetes Association, and may have a financial stake in diet recommendations by health groups. This is quite ironic.
- The research also found out actually most of doctors in America they don't know about nutrition and that's the doctors prefer offering tons of medicine to the patients who are suffered from heart disease, cancer, diabetes etc. Few years ago, some health groups suggested to let doctors have training and take nutrition courses 7 hours pre day but it was banned from health departments from the government and American Diabetes Association etc.
The Points Are Controversial
- The documentary claims that eating an egg a day is as bad for your life expectancy as smoking five cigarettes a day, due to artery plaque buildup from high cholesterol content in eggs. But the recent research suggests that the effects of eggs are nowhere near comparable to those of cigarettes. Lately, national nutrition experts declared that cholesterol, such as in eggs, is not considered a nutrient of concern for overconsumption. Other research has shown that the kind of cholesterol you eat isn’t solidly linked to cholesterol levels in the blood.
From an interviewee who has plant-based diet from few years and here is his opinion about EGG:
“Plant-based food can help decrease the risks for certain cancers,” says dietitian Andy Bellatti, who has followed a vegan diet for six years. “The idea that if you’re going to eat an egg you might as well smoke a Marlboro, I don’t find accurate.”
- In the film, several nutrition experts downplay the role of SUGAR in health problems and instead shift the focus to animal protein, despite the fact that plenty of research has linked sugar to diabetes and heart disease. Several reports have also suggested that the sugar industry funded research that turned attention away from sugar’s link to heart disease, as well as research that has influenced national health recommendations related to sugar consumption and cavity prevention. source
Conclusion
Anyway, it's worth to spend some time on watching What The Health as we can know more about how diet can change our body to be healthy. I believe that plant-based diet definitely can change our body and make it feel better and stronger according to my experience. Actually, we don't have to set a frame for ourselves by saying we'reVEGAN or not. If we just consume less meat per meal, how much can we help the planet? Just think about it! Here is the trailer of What The Health, enjoy:)
Stay happy and healthy my friends.
Much love,
