Quoting Indiatimes on Friday (4/5/2018), the researchers stated that you are using more muscle fibers when doing the last repetition with a growl.
Research at Drexel University, Philadelphia, USA found that your grip strength will increase by as much as 25 percent when growling compared to regular breathing. This not only helps to focus power, but also improves stability.

Another study published in PLOS ONE measured the amount of extra power an athlete produced while grunting.
The study revealed, a mixed martial athlete who kicks with a growl or grunt, has the power to kick at 9 percent stronger.
"The participants were able to generate much greater power when kicking with a growl than those who did not," the researchers said.
