7 Important Strategies to Keep in Mind during a Weight Loss Plateau

in health •  7 years ago

You have been working hard and eating right. The pounds have been slowly coming off, but then you reach a point where it seems there is no more progress and that you are not going anywhere.

According to researchers, most plateau's occur after 6 months of dieting. This is where the body decides to stop losing weight and simply hit the status quo.

Now some of us think that the simple fix to this is using the simple formula of calories in and calories out, but this is not the case. Simply lowering your calories and increasing your physical exertion is not the answer, and could actually lead you to exhaustion, burn out and vitamin/mineral deficiencies.

One you reach this plateau there are 7 steps you should follow religiously. These could be the difference between getting the results you want and simply giving up.

A plateau is simply your body saying that it has adapted to your lifestyle and needs a change to keep the progression going.

  1. Eat more Fiber. Simply put they speed up metabolism and keep you fuller on less calories.

  2. Get quality calories over quantity. Stick too high quality food and stay away from fast food and empty calories.

  3. Pump the iron. Cardio just won't do it. It is a proven fact that cardio simply makes you fatter. Additionally, it is a known fact that when we lose weight, we also lose muscle mass, which in turn reduces your metabolism. It's simply, more muscle, higher metabolism, less fat. Give it a try! Don't forget you're not training for the Mr./Ms Universe competition.

  4. High Intensity Interval Training.... research it, well worth the effort.

  5. Journaling. when you keep a written record of your food consumption, exercise, sleep and daily patters, you can at least see what needs tweaking.

  6. Get sufficient rest. Sleep is where your body rests, restores and heals itself... need I say more!

  7. Meditation. This speaks for itself. Meditation has numerous known benefits.
