Benefits of Lemon Balm

in health •  7 years ago

Lemon Balm, which falls under it's botanical name of Melissa Officinalis, is considered a herb with great anti-anxiety and calming effects, specifically when it consists of nervous digestion.

Gut sensitivities are a common thing today, with the rise in stress, anxiety and fear in our day to day lives. When there is no presence of an actual disease causing digestion or intestinal issues, the usual cause is nerve related. What happens is that the nerve endings around the digestive organs become hypersensitive. For example we have what is called the phrenic nerve that controls the diaphragm, which then controls the stomach or the vagus nerve which passes through the diaphragm and takes care of the stomach and digestion. These are two nerves that are commonly the cause of digestive sensitivities.

So what has been found is that people with upset digestive tracts that cannot be linked to any identifiable reason are usually suffering from hypersensitive nerves. Hypersensitive nerves have been known to carry the same symptoms as many inflictions. We are talking nausea, loss of appetite, urgent bowel movements.

If there was one herb on this planet that was made for hypersensitive nerves, that would be lemon balm. The bioactive phytochemicals found in lemon balm are specifically designed to calm the nerve receptors, which with use reduce inflammation.

However, lemon balm doesn't stop at that. It is known to be very beneficial for the entire body. Some of the advantages of lemon balm include:

  • It is extremely high in trace minerals like boron, manganese, copper, chromium, molybdenum, selenium and iron.
  • It also contains large amounts of silica.
  • It has the ability to help your body preserve it's valuable B-12 reserves.
  • Antiparasitic
  • Antiviral
  • Antibacterial
  • Fights EPV (Epstein-Barr virus
  • Fights shingles
  • Tonsillitis
  • Detoxifies liver, spleens and kidneys
  • Reduces bladder inflammation

The list for what lemon balm does goes on and on. It is basically a cure all, so getting daily cup is in your best interest.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
