Poor oral hygiene can have a negative effect on your overall health. Bacteria found in the mouth can travel through the bloodstream causing health problems such as heart disease, chronic kidney disease, rheumatoid arthritis, dementia and respiratory problems. These are just some of the diseases that have been linked to poor oral health.

Your Toothbrush

Your toothbrush could be home to millions of germs and could be making you sick. Cleaning your toothbrush regularly is as important as brushing your teeth.

Instead of using harmful chemicals such as bleach or expensive products such as special UV light, there are natural solutions that are both safe and inexpensive for cleaning your toothbrush.

What you'll need is three ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen:

  • 1/2 a cup of water
  • 2 tsp baking soda
  • 2 Tbsp vinegar

Simply add the baking soda and the vinegar to the water, mix well then place your toothbrush into the mixture and leave for 30 minutes. Remove your toothbrush and rinse well.

Another safe and easy way to clean your toothbrush is to spray the bristles with colloidal silver regularly, store the toothbrush upright and allow to air dry.

Nice - thanks for sharing these ideas for keeping them clean. Reminds me that I need to clean mine soon. My kids just got new ones. :)

Would definitely try this one! Thanks for sharing though

I think that's a good idea, because few people do it

useful information .. thanks for sharing @hoosain

Thanks for sharing this @hoosain At times, we try to replace them as regularly as we can. xx

It's amazing what baking soda and vinegar can do for you! Natural and effective! Thanks for sharing :)

This was rather interesting. Baking soda and vinegar are a surprisingly useful combo. Not just limited to the volcano!

Normally I don't clean my toothbrush aside from a water rinse and when it is too dirty for use I get a new one. I guess I learn new things every day!

This is very useful information. Especially since I have the ingredients in my kitchen and never thought of using them in this way. Rather, I replace my toothbrush oftenly maybe the reason I haven't thought of cleaning it but with water. Question: How often should this be done?

I'm no expert but I read you should clean your toothbrush at least once a week and replace it every 3 months.

Thank you for sharing this Natural home remedy with us @hoosain! I love doing things naturally without chemicals. I normally clean our toothbrushes with scolding hot water and peroxide. However I will try it this way as I know baking soda and vinegar are both good to use.

Do you oil pull? This post reminded me that I need to get back to doing that. It is very true that disease and virus begins in the mouth and it’s so important to keep it clean. 😊

I tried oil pulling but most of the time I just rinse with 'himalayan rock salt' water.

Thanks for stopping by :-D

That’s cool! My pleasure :)

Helpful information, thanks @hoosain
