Why we yawn??

Remember a boring history lecture of your school..
Taking the name itself makes you yawn.

Yawning is the most contagious and uncontrollable action a body does.
But what is yawning??

Yawn is a reflex consisting of the inhalation of air and simultaneous stretching of the jaw muscles and eardrum followed by exhalation of breath.
It most often occurs before and after sleep.
Often associated with tiredness, boredom, stress sleepiness or hunger.

Causes

It is commonly said that when your body lacks oxygen, you feel to yawn as it brings extra oxygen to your body.
But scientifically it is not true.
The most common theory behind yawning is brain temperature regulation theory.
According to this, when your brain's temperature goes up compared to the atmosphere, inhalation of air can help you cool it down.
According to another theory, your body wakes up by stretching the muscles, lungs and their tissues.
The blood flow towards the face and brain is increased leading to increased alertness.

Why yawning is contagious??

When we see someone around us yawning or even a picture or video of someone yawning continuously, we also start yawning even if we don't feel to.

Even I have started yawning writing this post.😀
Some animals such as chimpanzee, baboon, dogs also shows same response.
Female are more susceptible to this contagious response.
But why it is contagious??

According to a theory, yawning stimulates the motor imitation and social behavior part of the brain.
Yawning is an echophenomina when you automatically imitate other's word or action.

Children under the age of 5 and people with schezophrenia and autism doesn't show the contagious response.

By this time you also must have started yawning..😀
Actually yawning is good but it may be embarrassing when started publicaly.

So how to stop yawning??

• Take a deep breath
• Have some cold water or other cold beverages
• You can have cold food
• Keep you environment cool
