Video games for the treatment of hyperactivity

The results of a clinical trial announced on Monday that specially designed video games can help children with attention deficit disorder with hyperactivity.


American drug developer Ackley is planning to apply for US Food and Drug Administration approval in the first half of 2018, paving the way for the first "digital" treatment product.


Akely is a unit of PureTech Health, listed on the London Stock Exchange.


The incidence of ADHD has increased with hyperactivity in the world in recent decades and children are often treated with drugs. The Akili product takes another approach by using a video game to stimulate certain cognitive nervous systems in the brain.


After an experiment with 348 children and adolescents with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), the Akili product achieved statistically significant improvement.
