Hello everyone, welcome to another interesting time in THE CONSULTING ROOM and today we will continue from the last topic we discussed. There will be a little bit of diversion as I will not be talking on the Hygiene I explained last time but I will be talking about a different form of Hygiene. In Part3, I will talk on the continuation of part 1
Mental Hygiene: This is simply an act or a way of keeping one’s mind/brain healthy. Even scriptures gave a clue into this type of hygiene;
Philipians4:8-:
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report, if there be any virtue, and praise, think of these things.
Our mind is very important thus the need for a neat environment for it to dwell safely. For the purpose of this write up, I will be using mind and brain interchangeably. This is because the mind I’m referring to is that we use to think/imagine thus same as the brain.
Quickly let me give a good rundown of practises that enhance mental hygiene;
READING: This is the alpha of maintaining a good mental hygiene. Those who spent time reading vast always appear healthy because reading above all, it helps boost self-esteem. Which is a good for the human body on the other hand; those who don’t read have the tendency of suffering from low self esteem because they are ignorant in a whole lot of things.

STAYING HAPPY: I don’t need to start telling you that happy people live longer. Trust me there is no benefit you can derived from being depressed and sad. For a healthy mind, it should be free of grudges and malice. I know it’s almost impossible because at one point in time, we must deal with situations that definitely will not bring smile to you face but you should be able to limit the extent to which such trauma affect your mind. Hanging out with friends and family, watching movies, dancing are some of the ways which we can stay happy.

MEDITATION: To be clear, I’m not having Yoga classes so don’t just have the picture of Yoga when I say meditation. As simple as listening to a cool music in the cool of the day after a shower can pass for meditation. Thinking about the good times in ones’ life can also pass for this. The essence is to occupy the mind with things that makes it relax it. I will say ‘meditation is the vitamin of the mind’.
