Hello every one, this will be the second publication i'm making in this series in less than 24hours you can visit my blog and check for the last topic; PEPTIC ULCERATION.
For the last three episodes of this publication, I've been discussing about disease conditions, well I want to talk on something that is not really a disease but rather I would say it's a disorder. This is just my own view/suggestion towards the topic about to be discussed:
LOW SELF-ESTEEM: I just took a close look at the word 'esteem' and guess what came to my mind "e-steem" app😂😂. Don't mind me..back to the topic;
Low self-esteem is a condition experienced by people that makes them feel they are not up to par in the society/their field of life.
It is mostly developed from childhood; the affected individuals child hood have a long effect on his/her esteem.
CAUSES;
Several factors can be pointed to as the cause of low self esteem but I will state some;
- Attitude of parents:
this is a key factor that always comes to mind. Parent are the first environment/ point of interaction to an individual so whatever they do or how they relate/treat the person goes a long way to shape the child esteem. I am a good example; while growing up, my dad will complain seriously over any of my little wrong decision. This made me to doubt my ability to make sound decision for a long time before i could get over it.
Friends:
show me your friend and i will tell you who you are; well it does not always work that way...I've been in a circle of friend where i was more like a errand boy because the rest where financially buoyant. I am a victim of this disorder so what i say is mainly out of experience.
Personal characteristic:
most time introverts are seen as people with low self esteem and to some extent that is true. On a good day i'm an extrovert but when i'm in an environment that make me feel inferior i automatically become an introvert.
You will observe that the causes i highlighted has to do with from childhood. For an adult to develop low self esteem it must be as a result of an experience/ bouts of experience that brought about doubting of the person's ability and charisma. Such experience could be a doctor who lost a patient in a simple case like appendicitis ( i say simple case because it is when compared to others). The doctor may feel 'if i can loose a patient to a little surgical procedure like appendctomy, what will happen when i'm dealing with a person with a cardiac surgery case.'
EFFECTS OF LOW SELF ESTEEM:
One major hallmark of low self-esteem is "Indecisiveness". Others are;
intrapersonal conflict ( being in a state of confusion most times for no reason)
defects in interpersonal relationships
low productivity/output level
violence
drinking/drug addiction.
suicidal tendency.
HOW TO ESCAPE THE HOLD OF LOW SELF ESTEEM:
Your environment plays a huge role in restoring self esteem. Here is my advise/contribution;
Find people who have positive influence and link with them.
Practise the habit of public speaking.
Start making decisions whether they are right or not (practise makes perfect).
Read Books; yes reading books help build your IQ also expand your vocabulary and increase your knowledge about things around.
