I found this gorgeous cactus on one of the streets where I parked my truck. I just had to get out and take a picture of it since it is so beautiful.

I have seen this cactus in the stores before, especially when I went to Texas and I found a whole section filled with this cactus leaves which I have never seen before. My husband said that Latin people eat this Prickly Pear Cactus, but we have never tried it ourselves or even know how to prepare it or eat it.

Now that I found this gorgeous cactus here, which I had no idea it also had these beautiful flowers on it, I had to research what this Prickly Pear Cactus is good for and how to eat it.

This Prickly pear cactus is also known as nopal, opunta and other names.
It is said to promote in treating diabetes, obesity, high cholesterol and also hangovers.
Also some evidence proves that prickly pear cactus can decrease blood sugar levels.

Prickly pear cactus is known for its antiviral and anti-inflammatory properties.
It is also high in fiber, carotenoids and antioxidants.

The leaves, flowers, stems and fruit are all eatable either boiled or grilled.
Some people may experience side effects just like with anything else, depending on a person, which include; nausea, mild diarrhea, and increased stool.

I don't know about you, but I will definitely like to try this prickly pear cactus one of these days, especially since they are growing like crazy here in El Salvador.
I might even get few of these cactuses myself either on the beach lot or in my home.

I would like to try to eat its fruit @joalvarez
We do not have that kind of cactus in my country.

I agree. I would love to try one day too and I will and when I do, I will share my experience with it.

Have a lovely day, dear friend.
