Sunscreen Is It Harmful For Our Skin? Chemical vs. Physical Sunscreen Exposed!

in health •  7 years ago  (edited)
Waterproof or not, like cream, lotion or spray: sunscreen is available in all types and sizes. How do you know which one to choose? And more importantly: How do you recognize a good, high quality sunscreen? But is every sunscreen the same? In the shelves of drug stores and perfumeries you find sunscreens in different price ranges. The amount of sunburn consumed depends, among other things, on the type of solar filter added to the sunscreen. Because one filter is not the other one. In sunscreens, a distinction is made between chemical sun filters and physical sun filters.

Chemical sun filters

Great chance that the word "chemical" calls negative reactions to you. It is also with chemical sun filters. Stay away from it. Chemical sunscreens - usually in cheap sunscreens - penetrate into the skin and absorb UV radiation. In addition, various chemical sunscreens are known to penetrate the blood and irritate the skin. A chemical solar filter is just an unnecessary chemical added to sunscreen. This type of filter protects you from combustion, but it is not really good for your skin and body.

Physical sun filters

A better choice is a physical solar filter. This type of solar filter puts a layer on your skin and thus reflects UV radiation. Because a physical sunscreen stays on your skin, it does not pull into your skin, so the dust can not get into your blood. An additional advantage is that a physical sunscreen rarely results in skin irritation. A good physical solar filter is titanium dioxide.

Protection against UVA, UVB and infrared radiation

Not all sunscreens protect against UVA and UVB radiation. And that is absolutely necessary because UVA is largely responsible for premature skin aging, while UVB radiation burns you. So always choose a sunscreen that protects against both radiation types. A solar filter that does this is bis-ethylhexyloxyphenol methoxyphenyl triazine. Protect yourself from the invisible but dangerous infrared radiation.

Read the ingredients list

The ingredient list of your sunscreen says a lot about the quality of your solar product. For example, there are ingredients that can better be avoided, such as perfume, fragrance and colorants. These do not add to a sunscreen and can only cause skin irritation. Substances that you can look for in a sunscreen include vitamin E and grape seed extract.

Thank you for sharing....Living in Australia we have a high occurrence of skin cancers. Next time I'm looking for sunscreen I will check the labels

Cool little article! Sunscreen is soooo important. Not just for your overall health but also THEY HURT SO BAD.

So how can you tell which is which? I would like to know how to choose one, but I have no idea what to look for!

Only time I ever went to buy sunscreen was when I went on a trip to Vegas, it was impossible for me to find a titanium dioxide based product, in the big stores.

I just went without and was fine, not burned at all which was suprising.

Nice post

👍

I recently got sunburnt pretty hard from working , if I only had your article back then I probably wouldn't forget to buy sunscreen. =) And I really try to avoid as many chemical products as possible and use natural alternatives instead, so we got that in common.. I like your article, kudos! 😄

Good points!
