Tangerines (Citrus tangerina), could also be referred to as mandarin oranges, they are said to be a variant of mandarin oranges (Citrus reticulate). Tangerines are quite valuable and needful for human consumption, because of how rich they are in the possession of some nutrients and compounds essential human health.
The fruit is mostly grown in tropical regions and forests of Southeast Asia. It contains antioxidants, vitamins (Vit. C & A), beta-carotene, fibers etc. In this article, I'll be highlighting some health reasons why we should consume tangerines, even more frequently than occasionally. The "Why" in the title of this post is simply tied to the fact that there health benefits attached to the eating of tangerines. The following are reasons why you should eat tangerines;
Good Sight: Vitamin A is crucial in the prevention of macular degeneration. Asides vitamin C, tangerines also contain carotenoid vitamin A. This vitamin also helps in draining the vitreous humor of the eye, where a buildup of pressure can cause glaucoma. Glaucoma is simply a disease in which pressure inside the eyes causes gradual loss of vision. What simply happens when glaucoma occurs is that the optic nerve or disk of the eye is damaged, if glaucoma continues without treatment it could eventually lead to blindness.
Maintenance of Optimum Blood Pressure: Tangerines contain high potassium but low in sodium. A large tangerine is said to contain 199 milligrams of potassium, compared to 2.4 milligrams of sodium, quite unparralleled to the sodium content. The potassium helps the blood vessels to relax and as such helps in maintaining optimum systolic and diastolic blood pressures.
Fight Against Infections: Tangerine is considered a reservoir of 53% of the vitamin C daily requirements, for a big-size tangerine. Vitamin C is a water-soluble antioxidant that helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents, amongst other important functions. Also helpful in the elimination of cancer-causing free radicals in the body.
Strengthening of the bones: The bones need potassium for its growth. The potassium contained in tangerines is helpful in keeping the bones strong as well as protecting it from osteoporosis. Osteoporosis is simply a bone disease and a medical condition in which the loses so much bone or produces little mass of bone or the occurrence of bone. Osteoporosis do lead to weaknesses and breakage of bones.
Gives your hair and skin a flourishing look: Collagen is a crucial protein found in hair and skin, vitamin C which is contained in tangerines helps in the production and maintenance of collagen. In addition, tangerines contain vitamin A known to keep the hair in a moisturized state through increased sebum production.
Here are a few reasons why you should consider the consumption of tangerines important more than ever. The health benefits attached to its consumption is magical. So when next you have an opportunity to see tangerines, desire to own and eat some.
