Change is the only consistency. How I resolve to be more healthy and fit.

We are much like yoyos. Up and down. With every aspect in life we experience highs and lows. Whether it be our relationship with our spouse (or girlfriend/boyfriend), or our physical well being, we are constantly changing (oh the irony!). I believe that in order to change for the better, we need to put in place a method that involves constant reminding and motivation. What is even more depressing is that for us, as human beings, "becoming" hardly exists. When we have "become", and we slack off, the "have become" becomes "became" (quite a tongue twister haha!). So it is a constant effort to maintain. Think of the runner who runs the 100m sprint in 10 seconds. If he stops exercising, even just for two weeks, he has to really work hard to get back to his former glory of 10 seconds.

So in order to change from my current physical state (which is okay...ish) to where I want to be (beach-ready), I have resorted to friends and family. I have created a whatsapp group where the participants will constantly send the "health conscious" decisions and the goals for that day that they have made, on the group. This will serve as a constant reminder to be healthy. It will also hold all the participants accountable to each other to make good on their aspirations. We started off by stating realistically, how much we want to lose (or gain) by month end.

This is an example of how it works:

This morning one participant said that she made a salad for her lunch instead of bread. In response, she got a number of congratulations'. In response to that someone said that they started the day off with two glasses of water. I responded that I will go running today, now I am accountable. At the shops, my wife and I bought sugar free drinks and resisted buying a sweet snack purely for the fact that we want to boast on the group.

We are thinking of rewards for those who reach their goals for the month. This is still in its infant phase, so I will keep you updated with how it goes. Things will probably also change as time continues. For now, this is fine.

Have a good, healthy day all!!

"When we deal in generalities, we shall never succeed, when we deal in specifics, we shall rarely fail. When performance is measure performance improves. When performance is measure and reported the rate of improvement accelerates."
Thomas S Monson

Great comment. We cant set general goals and expect specific results :)
