Health personnel's are working tirelessly to make sure that they improve on the well being of humans around the globe.
The discovery of the new drug for treating trypanosomiasis(sleeping sickness) is making news in the health department by the hard work of doctors and researchers with the help of the World Health Organisation. This newly discovered drug to treat African trypanosomiasis is a combination of two drugs call NIFURTIMOX AND EFLORNITHINE,this treatment will be first administered to two African countries namely Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
This drug has little side effects ,it is less costly than the drugs traditionally used or used before like MELARSOPROL which had a lot of side effects and require many painful injections several times a day and several days a week and its side effects could be deadly.
Whereas,with the new drug the number of injections are reduced and shortens the amount of time patients spend in the hospital.
Sleeping sickness threatens thirty six African countries,most of which are poor rural areas.The disease is caused by the Trypanosoma parasite,it is spread to humans through the bite of infected TSETSE FLIES.
COMMON SIGNS INCLUDE;fever,headaches,extreme tiredness and pain in the muscles and joints.Earlier identification may be difficult because symptoms are not Immediate.
