Eating more natural, and less processed, foods is definitely the way to go.
The only caution I'd mention about fruit would be to not eat too much of the really big, sweet ones. They will raise blood-sugar, which is not good. There are plenty of tasty, nutrient-dense fruits that are not too sweet, like berries, cherries, and even pineapple and bananas in moderation.
