Have you ever wondered what the biological activity of youthfulness is?
I have through several medical misfortunes had the opportunity to learn how to take control of the autonomous healing processes of the body and 'will' it to do what I want, allowing me to recognise some excersizes that have helped me not only maintain my health, but regain lost youth.
These processes are predominantly active during our sleep cycles and we conciously excersize very little control over them in our waking life, it is, however, when we are awake that we have the opportunity to conciously control these bodily processes and affect the processes that control our health, and our youth.
In order to indicate what it is I would like to suggest you do, first I have to explain some fundamentals of the process. When you breathe in and out, your body accumulates oxygen to use, some spending of this oxygen depends on the autonomous processes of the body, and some of it depends purely on what you're focusing on, for instance when you run, your mental focus moves to your extremities.
In Chinese medicine this is called Yin and Yang, basically this indicates the two abstract extremes, hot and cold, male and female. Yin is associated with slow, cold, wet, soft, passive, yielding, and Yang with fast, hot, dry, hard, aggressive, and force. Moving your focus to your extremities and breathing out longer than you breathe in, like when you're running, causes the systems in your body to 'Yang' and you heat up, your heart pumps faster, everything becomes more active, in order to 'put out'.
A good place to practice this excersize is while driving to work, because it requires only breath and relaxation, it will improve any work day :)
When you sleep, the body 'takes in', this is Yin in chinese medicine and it involves breating in longer than you breathe out (that's where the stereotypical 'snoring sound' originates from) it is important to know this because we will be using Yin style breathing to initiate the cycles your body induces when you sleep.
The second fundamental we'll use here inducing different bodily functions simply by focusing on body parts, so as you would focus on your hand just before you feel if something is hot or cold, or focus on a body part that is in pain, you will chose certain bodyparts to move your attention to in this excersize, the better you get at it, the more effective this gets. A good indicator would be if you get some kind of subtle sensation, like a very mild pins and needles or warmth, in the areas you focus on.
So to initiate this 'regeneration of youth' excersize you will, simply put 'breathe in the manner of someone who is doing foreplay'. That is to say you will breathe slowly, audibly and with full intent to influence your body. Some might call this 'tantric breath', you can just call it a breath if you're not comfortable with the name. You will breathe like a gas torch, audibly and slowly, the idea here is maximum fire so the fuel/air mixture is very important, you dont want your breath to lose traction like someone who's hyperventilating, you want maximum traction.
Breathe in, while you breathe in very slowly, put your focus on your kidneys. Your kidneys should experience the sensation that they are breathing too, taking on air from the space behind them. If you don't feel it on your first try be patient and keep on repeating, the sensation will happen if you are patient and will it to be.
Breathe out, slightly faster than your in breaths, you want to produce a Yin bodily cascade so its very important to breathe out shorter than you breathe in, you want half the traction for your breath here that the in breath had. When you breathe out, you should cause your focus to fall on your eyes, you are breathing out through your eyes, energising the biggest and most energy consuming nervous system in your body.
Your optic nerves require a lot of energy, and in today's life we really take the optic nerves for a ride, they wear out way quicker than ever before. When people grow old, their optic nerves ordinarily go first, that is because the body can not keep up the necessary maintenance for it.
When children are young, (up to age 4) they are said to be in a dreamlike state, their growth is much more affected by input from their optic nerves and adaptation to these inputs are much faster, their neurochemisty allows for greater neuroplasticity which is something that starts to decline as people age, what you want to do here is induce youth the other way around, since you are shifting the bodily focus to those processes, you are inducing the same sort of the growth that children enjoy, their eyes endlessly nursed by their bodies. The idea here is to learn that you can command some of the autonomous healing systems in your body without being some kind of kung fu master.
We have instinctively learned to look for youth around the eyes, because its the first part of the skin that loses its elasticity, that is because right behind it is a super highway of energy, lots of traffic jams and maintenance required. If we don't conciously nurse that bodily system when we leave the stages that 'force the issue' by automatically inducing it, we grow old before our time. Inducing this form of maintenance helps stave off premature ageing.
For those interested in much, much higher forms of similar studies, bone marrow regeneration, as a chinese medical practise would be the next step, since the excersizes here help with your superficial youth and the maintenance of your nervous system, bone marrow regeneration is a very important practice for individuals wanting to prolong their health, especially for people past the age of 30, when the body stops giving you a 'free ride' bone marrow wise.
