It is a very important mineral in the formation of haemoglobin. Demand is highly increased in pregnancy because of increased maternal blood volume; formation of fetal supplements must be taken. Its absorption is enhanced in the presence of vitamin C. It is hence best taken with citrus juices. Sources include liver, red meat, eggs, white grains and green leafy vegetables.

VITAMINS
Vitamins are very essential to the body. Generally, they play a role in all the metabolic and synthetic activities of the body Fat-soluble vitamins A, D,E and K are stored in the body and their deficiencies are seldom seen. The water-soluble vitamins, B complex and C are not stored in any appreciable degree and so it is important they are daily supplied in the diet. Sources include vegetable, fats and legumes. Supplements may be taken.

FOLIC ACID
It is very essential for the rapidly growing cells of the fetus. It is used in DNA synthesis and development of nerve tissues .It is known to prevent neural tube defects. Good sources include dark green leafy vegetable, organ meat and legumes bus supplementation is highly recommended. If possible start taking it before pregnancy.
