What causes conjunctivitis?

Often it is caused by some alergic reactions, bacterias or viruses.
Bacterial conjunctivitis occurs mostly in winter and spring, and virus conjunctivitis in summer days.
It is important to know that conjunctivitis is contagious so early diagnose and treatment are neccesary to prevent further complications.

TYPES OF CONJUNCTIVITIS

Viral conjunctivitis

It is most commonly transmitted by contact and often from viruseswhich causes cold.
This type of conjunctivitis usually last 4-7 days and can be very contagious.
Adenovirus is one of the most common causer, it transmits through respiratory tract.
If you are contact lens wearer, due inflammation, it is better to not use them.
Also, make up isn't recommanded.

Characteristically for pink eye are inflammation, sand feeling in the eye, also vision acuity can drop.

Alergic conjunctivitis

It affects both eyes and happens at spring/summer when there are reactions on, for example, pollen.
Also, the alergy can cause animal hair or dust so it's good to be in clean rooms without dust, also regular bedding change can help in prevention.

Again, for contact lens wearers it is good to not use them for a while if the person has inflammation.
But to prevent it it is very important to clean them properly and respect their expire date.

Bacterial conjunctivitis

In case of bacterial conjunctivitis excessive mucus formation occurs and yellow-green eye discharge is produced.
The secretion causes loss of vision sharpeness and the eyelashes are becomes sticky during the night.
After awakening, the eyes are hard to open.
Often is caused by bacteria such as staphylococci or streptococci and can also can be caused by bacterias that are transmitted by contact.
Usually withdrawn without treatment, but treatment of antibiotic can can accelerate recovery.

PREVENTION

Since we have found in previous examples that conjuctivitis is difficult to prevent, there are measures that can be taken and thus we can reduce the chance of getting this disease and its spread.

Hand care- big help, for example, when using an eye cream.
Washing clothes and bedding - everything that came into contact with infected eyes (clothes, towels, bedding).
Eye make-up - throw a makeup that has been in contact with the infected eye.
Do not touch the eye -there is possibility of transferring the infection to a healthy eye.
Contact lenses - proper and orderly maintenance.

I had alergic conjunctivitis a few times from pollen. It wasn't fun :). You just want to keep rubbing your eyes because they itch and then you make it worse.

Yes, it's the worst you can do because more allergens penetrate the eye when you itch.
But I understan it's hard not to itch 😥😊
