More Thoughts on Self-Care

Is Self-Care a Radical Act?

It shouldn’t be. But, guess what. For the majority of people, it is. And especially for women. 010617 Brodie Welch-65.jpg

Conscious and subconscious messaging to girls and women has been - and still often is - to take care of others first. To sacrifice.
Women are often called selfish when they take care of themselves. That goes right along with the fact that successful women are widely disliked and called the b…tch word while men are usually admired - even if they aren’t very nice.

But that is not what Brodie and I talk about in this interview. We talk about health. Mental, physical and emotional health. And guess what. They are all connected!

Chinese medicine, Ayurveda, and other healthcare systems are looking at disease or disorder as a symptom of something being out of balance for the person. Then, the goal is to bring that person back into balance. All aspects are addressed. From diet to stress to toxins in the environment.

Allopathic or western Medicine, on the other hand, looks at the symptom and then treats that symptom.

Brodie Welch is a powerhouse of information! She shared so many good tips on staying and getting healthy during our podcast.

One can hardly provide good care for others if one does not care for oneself.

On a related note, one cannot love others if one does not love oneself. (That is, love one's true SELF, not love one's ego.)

So true!! That is really the missing link. If we love ourselves enough, we will take care of ourselves. I really wonder how and why we often lose that. My theory is that it all starts in infancy - how much we are taken care off then.

Agreed! It's not any obscure, esoteric knowledge that we have to study and learn. It's simply something we know in our hearts, but that we have forgotten. Most likely because our experience as infants / children was so antithetical to that world view.

So, all we have to do is remember. Remember who we are – at heart, and at soul – and live thus.

Peace and Love.

p.s. During my morning swim, the idea for a future series on Steemit popped into my head. To be called "Mystic Voice." First, however, I'll have to get my current series (plural) up and running.

Stayed tuned. Tuned IN. And do not drop out.

okay. :) Not dropping out!
