Bitter Melon, also known as bitter gourd or Momordica charantial. It grows off the vine as a green, oblong-shaped fruit with a distinct warty exterior. It is very well know in Asian culture dishes. Though they taste very bitter, they are filled with many beneficial antioxidants and essential vitamins.

Inside the melon are seed pods. Scrape it off with a spoon and slice it for cooking. If you never eaten bitter melon before...you might not like it in the beginning. It took me several times to get my taste bud to get use to it.

Once I try bitter melon stuff with meat inside...I started to like eating it. It is a great soup dish.

You can also make scramble eggs mix with bitter melon. It taste wonderful! But here is why Bitter melon is pack with a big punch. Ancient Asian culture have been using bitter melon as medicine for a long time. Here are the benefits:

1.) Diabetes - Bitter melon contains certain chemicals that are like insulin which help to reduce the blood sugar levels. The melon contains at least three active substances with anti-diabetic properties, including charantin, which has been confirmed to have a blood glucose-lowering effect, vicine and an insulin-like compound known as polypeptide-p.

2.) Liver Detox - has antioxidant potential to protect vital organs.

3.) Improve Immune System - Bitter melon contain many different antioxidants that make it a powerful defense mechanism against illness in the body.

Wow this looks great and healthy. I'm not into bitter food but I'm sure it could be seasoned to taste good. You have my follow and upvote. Great photos and content.

I've actually tried bitter melon and while the taste was pungent to me, it did help reduce my blood sugar (glucose) levels. @MasterGreen you can't forget about cinnamon! It's another good ingredient for diabetics.

If you soak the bittermelon in salt water before cooking then rinse it'll take out a lot of the bitterness.
