It is time again

Now it is time again: Whoever has read my introduceyourself knows that I have been suffering from cystic fibrosis since my birth. Tomorrow is the day of departure in a well-known area: the hospital. With this contribution I would like to pay a little more attention to this disease.

Cystic fibrosis is a metabolic disorder that has been present since birth and can be passed on. It is the most common metabolic disease, but unfortunately it is rarely reported. In the past, it was one of the most dangerous hereditary diseases and most people did not reach the age of 15.

In cystic fibrosis, a genetic defect ensures that the mucus that every human being has in his body to protect himself from diseases, for example, becomes thick and sticky. This leads to underweight and breathing problems.

At my birth, which was only 19 years ago, my mother was told that I would not be older than 12 years. In the meantime, however, medicine has developed very well. There are good methods of treating the disease. For example, there are drugs for weight loss or sprays and inhalation medications to loosen the mucus in the lungs. This includes a lot of physical therapy and sport (if you can still do well with it).

Well, tomorrow's the day I go to the hospital for two weeks and get intravenous medication. This happens every four months. In the meantime I'm always thinking about what I can do for the 2 weeks. This time it will probably come down to reading a book and browsing Netflix :D
