Gut health...
What is it? How can I achieve it? These are the questions many have when it comes to getting their body in shape and their digestive tract in tip-top shape. The problem is, most of us have no clue what to look out for when it comes to choosing the right food for our bellies. The funny thing about it is even some of the healthiest foods can cause you to feel discomfort, pain, or bloating in the abdominal area. And you know what’s worse? It seems that the bloat pops up at the most inconvenient time, like when you want to fit into that old pair of jeans that seemed to turn everyone’s head or when you’re trying to get into your favorite little black dress for your high school reunion. Whatever the event, bloating is not welcomed! SO, here are a few foods to look out for when you’re trying to beat the belly bloat.
Legumes - Beans and lentils are great for you. They contain a lot of fiber, protein, and they taste great. But they are notorious for giving you a bloated belly. Some can digest these foods without a problem, and others have the toughest time trying to digest them. If you do decide to eat them, try soaking the beans and legumes overnight to take away from the bloat factor before you cook them.
Carbonated beverages - These “soft drinks” aren’t soft at all on your digestive system. The carbonation in the drink releases little bubbles of gas into your digestive tract causing you to bloat and belch.
Cruciferous vegetables - These hearty vegetables are full of vitamins and fiber. But the problem is… it seems to cause belly bloating. This is usually due to their bulky nature and it having nowhere to go. It takes a while to digest these foods but water helps move them along!
Dairy - Dairy is the main culprit for some when it comes to belly bloat. It is a natural inflammatory and gives your midsection a little more shape when you have some. Ice cream, yogurt, and milk are tasty for some people, but the bloat that comes along with it is hardly worth it.
Garlic and Onions - These yummy ingredients are known for adding great flavor to food, but they aren't exactly known for adding girth to your waistline. Well, they do. If you have been unable to figure out why you get so bloated after certain meals, it may be because of the onion and garlic content in the dish. It’s a sad but harsh reality.
These foods are prime culprits when it comes to belly bloat. It’s not because they are bad for you, it could be because you have a sensitivity to them, or you simply don’t drink enough water to move the fiber given off by vegetables to move them through your system properly. So, the next time you want to get into that little black dress or show off your midsection in a crop top, keep those foods off the menu. You’ll have better luck eating something just as tasty and healthy until you’re ready to have those foods again!
