24 HOUR VENOMOUS SNAKEBITE UPDATE (NO ANTIVENOM)

in health •  5 years ago

Don't try this at home, or in the swamp!

This is not what I expected... Sure, I guess I figured that eventually I'd probably get bit by a venomous snake, but for the ER doctors to SUGGEST that I skip the antivenom and just head home was rather unexpected. Now, a day later, I seem to be still doing okay. We'll see what happens.

Well, I hope you learned something from that. I often thought you almost act like this crazy Australian guy did. He also grabbed every animal he could find and held it into the camera - until a sting ray killed him. Be glad you got away with a swollen hand and a hospital bill this time.

It does look better. I'm glad. Mama out.

I'm glad too - Thanks!

Oh my goodness! I missed the original post! I'm glad you are hanging in there. That looks pretty uncomfortable. :( Maybe comfrey would help with the swelling and pain? It will also help speed up the healing process.

Well, when in Rome.

I would think if you got bit where the venom would get to your blood stream you would have gotten the anti venom.

I am curious if you will have any lasting numbness or nerve damage from the swelling. Not super common but happens.

Yeah, I'm kind of hoping NOT on that last one, time will tell

Nerves regrow and reconnect so it can fade if it does happen. I cut a tendon in my left middle finger and it took about 3 years before the nerves all reconnected. You have good movement so hopefully you are good to go.

Oh no! Get well soon @papa-pepper!

Somehow, seeing you get some kind of treatment is a bit more satisfying than no treatment at all. Now it feels like all's well!

Get well soon! 😊 😊

Get well soon!

Hope you have a full recovery. But this quote seems somewhat appropriate.

“Natural selection shaped the human brain to be drawn toward aspects of nature that enhance our survival and reproduction, like verdant landscapes and docile creatures. There is no payoff to getting the warm fuzzies in the presence of rats, snakes, mosquitoes, cockroaches, herpes simplex and the rabies virus.”

Paul Bloom

Just saying.

Could it be that you developed resistance against venom? But that usually happens if you have been bitten many times by venomous snakes and survived.

Praise the Lord! Glad you're doing better. :)

Hi, @papa-peper, I am glad that you're getting away from the bite without a problem and no-anti venom. Seems like it wasn't a dry bite but a kind of "humid bite". Here two pictures of my last catch, a baby reticulated python. All my best to you and your family :)
