If you live in the United States, it is very important to stop drinking the tap water. Consider Flint, MI and their lead problem. Studies from large cities show high levels of illegal drugs and pharmaceuticals in the water supply. If you live in a rural area with industrial farming, then pesticides and herbicides have leeched into your rivers, aquifers, and wells. Also, let's not forget fluoride. Fluoride, a tailing from aluminum production, was used as rat poison in the beginning of the 20th century and is still in use throughout most of the country. All of these things are causing massive health problems.
I can say from personal experience that drinking purified water has improved my life drastically. I remember my dreams better, have more energy, and increased libido. So how can you filter heavy metals, pharmaceuticals, drugs, and hormones from your water? Simple. Buy a gravity fed filter from Berkey or ProPur or a reverse osmosis filter. Personally, I like the gravity fed filter as I can take it with me on trips or camping and they leave in beneficial minerals, whereas the reverse osmosis filter is stationary and requires more setup.
