As mouth is the entry of food, it is the entrance and exit of the diseases.
Normally when you brushes the bacteria that remain on your brush are anaerobic bacteria which means that they get killed by drying in presence of oxygen.
But when you're sick, you may be suffering from an infectious disease, vomiting or gagging and when you brushes different types of microorganisms (aero, anaero or facultative bacteria or even viruses) which can't easily be killed by oxygen and uv light can remain there.
So by those microorganisms remain on the toothbrush, they can cause recurrence of the disease or the development of the new disease.
So throw away your toothbrush after recovery to avoid recurrence or development of the new diseases due to remained microorganisms that can not easily be killed by air and uv light.
