The CDC has signed off on it, so it will soon be available for pregnant women to protect their newborns from RSV. The shot will be given between 32 and 36 weeks gestation.
Here is a chart showing the protection for infants. The blue line is the maternal vaccine and the red line is placebo.
There is also an approved monoclonal antibody against RSV for infants that will augment this protection for particularly vulnerable children or those that did not receive protection from the maternal vaccine.
And we have a RSV vaccine for adults 60 and older.
We now have the tools to blunt RSV during the most vulnerable periods in infancy and among the elderly. If you are eligible, please get the vaccine.
