Many of these people are likely still eligible for Medicaid.

Such a shame. This was due to the expiration of Medicaid continuous enrolment after the COVID-19 emergency ended.

It always pains me how for something like the Earned Income Tax Credit or Medicaid, a lot of the most vulnerable people miss out even though they were eligible. I really wish we structured benefits differently in this country to minimize such occurrences.

What kills me about this in general is that many uninsured Americans are eligible for Medicaid/CHIP, or at least marketplace subsidies. It is about a quarter of uninsured that are Medicaid/CHIP eligible. The people getting disenrolled here have higher eligibility rates- albeit some will get back on eventually- but it is the same issue of just a lot of administrative and structural barriers that we see across benefits.

For the EITC, upwards of a similar 20-25% of people are eligible but don't claim it.

In both cases the fixes are fairly straightforward to really avoid these problems.
