Cordyceps the Carnivourous Mushroom and its Incredible Abilities

in health •  8 years ago

These mushrooms were restricted and not well known until recently. This naturally pikes my curiosity, I imagine yours too. Chinese Emperors and Royalty were the only ones allowed to consume Cordyceps. News of this incredible mushroom came into the western mind when female athletes using the mushroom in the 1993 Track and Field National Games in Beijing. The athletes broke consecutive world track records, After being negatively tested for anabolics, the team coach revealed that they consumed a daily elixir of Cordyceps as part of their nutritional plan. You read that right, It drastically improves athletic performance and was thought it was a anabolic steroids.

Ophiocordyceps Unilateralis is a Parasitic Mushroom, It is the most fascinating of this Genus. The spores attach to an ant, breaking through by pressure and enzymes. It presumably then produces compounds that afftect the hemocoel of the ant, Which manipulates the behavioral patterns of the ant. First irregularly timed full body convulsions which shake it down to the forest floor. The ant then climbs up a plant uses it's mandibles with abnormal force to attach itself to a leaf. Once the mandibles are secured to the leaf the ant's mandibles atrophies, this is called the death grip. The mycelium then take spread throughout the ant quickly killing it. The hyphae continues to invade more soft tissues which fortifies the ant's exoskeleton. The mycelia also sprout outwards and anchor to the leaf at the same time antimicrobials form to fend off any competition. The next stage in this life cycle is to reproduce, to create mushrooms or also called fruiting bodies. It's like an underground tree. The Mushrooms grow from the ants head and then release spores.

This isn't the only type of Cordyceps Mushroom. Just my favourite, learn something new everyday... A Parasitic, Carnivorous and Mind Controlling Fungus exists. Below are the benefits of consuming this mushroom:

yea! carnivorous mushrooms! sick!!

I am so disgusted by this habit of this fungus to procreate through an insect that I feel very much resistent to taking it as medicine, even though I was actually planning to before I knew all this. Posted about it today then came across your post. Have a look if you like @clara-andriessen
