NSFW: Fluid in the Knee (Joint Effusion)

in health •  7 years ago

Have you ever wondered how much fluid can build up inside the knee after a sporting injury or an "osteoarthritic attack"? The following video shows just how much.

The video shows how I remove the joint effusion by aspirating the fluid into a syringe. In most cases, the joint fluid has to be coaxed out and helped to flow towards the needle and aspirating syringe by gentle massage.

Only after the fluid is removed can I introduce medications like steroids or hyaluronic acid gel (viscosupplementation), or do Regenerative Injection Treatments (RITs) like Dextrose Prolotherapy and Platelet-Rich Plasma (PRP).

The following video is not for the faint of heart and those who are afraid of needles, body fluids and blood.
