Intermittent Fasting---Explained

in health •  7 years ago

One of my most recent discoveries has been the amazing results of intermittent fasting. Intermittent fasting has become one of the most popular health trends in the world, considering what people know about food and health, its advantages continue to surprise the few that are willing to try it. Many people argue that consistently eating large portions throughout the day is the only way to stay fueled and energized. However, this is not true at all, our bodies are designed to sustain large periods of time without caloric intake.

The interesting part about intermittent fasting is that it is not a diet, it is an eating cycle, which can be customized to fit any lifestyle. In order to reap the benefits of this eating cycle, it is crucial that one chooses healthy, natural foods. When the body does not consistently intake food, it undergoes natural chemical changes, which alter hormones and functions throughout the body. Once the digestive system is running efficiently, the hormones that cause us to feel hungry are activated, think about this as our bodies way of burning through fuel. The importance of choosing healthy, natural foods also comes into play here, because everything you put into your body from here on out, will replenish the nutrients that your body truly needs. Also, if you have ever questioned the feelings or reactions you acquire after eating certain foods, this is a great way to do so. With many allergies of my own, I have been able to eliminate foods that cause issues for my body. Those who are allergic to certain foods will also be able to gain an understanding of what they should and should not consume.

Much of the success that is derived from intermittent fasting is though trial and error, each person is different and must determine what works best. Take what I have explained here and add life to your days! Merry Christmas everyone, I hope everyone has a great day tomorrow!

Thanks for the idea, I have never considered this type of eating pattern. Do you think it slows down your metabolism or does it speed it up on the days that you eat 3 meals a day in the morning, afternoon and evening?

It speeds up your metabolism dramatically, due to the fact that you are running on empty, your metabolism is running a lot more efficiently.

Yap intermittent fasting sure works for me......one easy way to stay healthy

I'm glad that you have found that it works for you! Yes, it is very easy when you get into the routine!

Obviously, been fasting for every full month of Ramadan, and now every month for a few days. Resteem to share with others

That is amazing @nkkb! I just followed you, and I would love to hear more on your progress!

Actually the progress is now considered as daily / monthly routine whereby i have been maintaining my ideal weight , BP and other stats. As a pilot I have to do Aviation standard medical checkups every 6 months. I do get coughs and colds at times but it goes away wihin days, thus avoiding the need for doctors. And worst of all I smoke.

What a great way of going about it! That is very impressive, do you find that your checkups improve over time? Or do you find yourself reversing at some times?

So far so good. Never failed any medical checkups. I would say impressive all the time.

Glad to hear it! Keep it up!

Definitely a nasty habit, but if you are motivated to do so, you could always quit smoking!

I do take plenty of antioxidant . It helps a lot

Thats good, and same! I drink loads of tea, smoothies, and homemade juices that I pack with good stuff!

I'm fasting 1 day in a year, every year, for 7 years already.

As a Jewish tradition. I'm fasting 25 hours at Yom Kippur.

You can google it you want to know what is that day.

That is amazing, keep it up! I will google it and look more into it, I have fasted for holidays in the past and I would love to try out new traditions. Thanks @yairdd!

great post keep going upvoted and follow:)

Thank you so much @chaerin, I will also follow you! I appreciate the support!

nice

Thank you @animeetoo!

How many times is intermitent.
Would you consider one day every month as intermitent. Or once every two weeks?

So this is the cool part about intermittent fasting, there is no defined amount of time that you need to go without eating. You should begin with whatever feels best and works with your schedule. Once you have done this you can begin experimenting with new time intervals and such! Right now I choose to intermittent fast 3-4 times a week and I'll go about 8-10 hours without eating.

3-4 times. I will start with once a week after the holidays

That is a great start! Let me know how your progress and results come along!

Will do that. I just hope i dont skip some days, like i do with exercise.

First of all, while you consider intermittent fasting is not type of diet, in my opinion, it is. There are a few types of intermittent fasting plan that can be found in the market but the most popular one is the 16 hours fasting and 8 hours eating plan. Basically, we are fasting from 12.00 am to 4 pm and eat afterwards. Fasting have a lot of health benefit and it is one of the great way to achieve ketosis, which for some people is the favorable state for the body as ketone is a much better and stable fuel for the brain. Kudos with the article and keep on inspiring the general public to live healthy. Thumbs up.

Thank you very much for the input @n4zrioffical! I have only undergone 16 hours of fasting a couple of times but I am trying to increase the frequency and duration everyday! Ketosis is another chemical/body change that comes from fasting and these are the best ways to stay on top of your health.

Thank you very much!

I'm usually doing a 8 - 16 hrs fasting during week days and I have nothing but good feedback.

I thought it would be hard to stop eating breakfast, but not at all!

Yes! I had a similar experience! You'd expect that it would be hard to not eat breakfast, but I actually feel much more productive when I wait to have my first meal.

Same here!
