I’m going to be working with a couple of other teachers at my school to develop a food security plan for our classrooms. In this, I mean we’ll be working to provide food in the classroom, likely in the form of fruit, vegetables, oatmeal, etc. for students to have access to as needed. Far too many kids come to school hungry and if we can ensure that they will not have to be distracted by that hunger, we will be able to focus more on their learning.

It is common knowledge that food provides the energy to help us function as learners, as just people getting by. Individually, we, as teachers, have been bringing in what we can, food-wise, but together we are looking at setting up a more sustainable system to make it work for the kids. The teacher spearheading this has the administration on board, as well as the school board so we are excited to see what happens.

I need a LOVE button for this! This concept in brilliant and certainly needed. It's quite difficult to focus on tasks at hand when you're starving. I can appreciate this. kudos
