When people are old, there are always some phenomena of hurting self-esteem. One of the most terrible trends is the constant increase in weight. Because resting metabolism slows as you age, it's probably reduced by 1%-2% every 10 years. At least for women, what's worse is a change before and after menopause: excess fat begins to accumulate. These fats do not make the thighs and buttocks thicker. Instead, they begin to pile up a swim ring on their stomachs. Of course, this phenomenon is more common in men.
This change is not just about whether it is beautiful. Increased waist-hip rate indicates an increased risk of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, metabolic syndrome and even certain cancers, and it is the same for men and women. This shift also helps to explain why the risk of cardiovascular disease in women after menopause began to catch up with men.
Belly also makes people pay a high price. In 2008, a Danish study found that for every 1 inch (2.54 cm) increase in health waistline, women’s annual health care costs would increase by about 3%, while men’s would increase by 5%.
For decades, researchers have been studying "the middle age". As people get older, more fat accumulates around the abdominal organs, and most of the body's fat is subcutaneous. However, there are some differences between different races. At a certain waistline, African-Americans have less "visceral fat" (covering fat around the viscera) as compared to Asians. The difference between visceral fat and subcutaneous fat is that the former releases fatty acids and inflammatory substances directly to the liver rather than releasing it into the blood circulation. This mechanism may be directly related to abdominal obesity-related diseases.
Why age will let us hoard visceral fat. Obviously, sex hormones are involved, because this change occurs in women before and after menopause. But the reason is not that estrogen drops so simple. Among transsexuals, men who turn to women need to receive estrogen therapy. At this time, they usually produce more visceral fat, and blood sugar and cholesterol levels are also higher. For another example, young women with polycystic ovary syndrome are prone to apple shape and insulin resistance, but they have a lot of estrogens. Of course, these women also has a high level of androgens.
It is really difficult to fight against the evolutionary fat storage mechanism. For example, scientists have tried to remove obese patients' body fat by reducing abdominal fat surgery to see if they can reduce the risk factors for diabetes and heart disease. The result is futile. "Their appearance is getting better." As for the metabolic benefits, it's "nothing."
At present, we know that natural laws will make middle-aged people's belly thicker. To change this phenomenon and reduce the risk associated with it, there is only one way: Take control of your legs, increase muscle mass, and increase your basal metabolic rate.

@samkhan i think that the problem mainly is, that people don't look after their health and spend money for diffeent things such as alocohol which ruin their health, so then spend money on other things such as doctors/medicines/diets/personal trainings etc in order to buy health. unfortnately, this is not as simple....
they are right saying we are what we eat.
and we should remember, that we can't 'build' our health in a few years. we work our all lives for results we get in middle / older age....
