Akee is grown in tropical areas and is an essential food of Jamaican cuisine, although originating in West Africa. This fruit, close to litchi, is not insignificant: it contains hypoglycine, a poison that is released when the fruit is consumed before it is mature. For this reason, it is the source of many food poisoning in Jamaica.

This purple purple fruit is native to eastern Asia. It resembles an eggplant, but it is nevertheless a fruit. The fruit resembles a small banana and contains many seeds. On the taste side, it is far from unanimous.

Pips are rich in lipids. The flesh is rich in fiber, vitamin C and vitamin B.
