Today I came across this nice little
article from the Denver Post. It's a nice little read about one binge eater's experience with hypnosis but brings up an important point.
At the end of the article the author says that she can't decipher whether the positive effects she's experienced are "a placebo effect, wishful thinking or genuine results."
This is my point: When dealing with the mind, exclusively (such as in hypnosis) there is no such thing as placebos (which are for drug testing). This shows up especially when looking to break habits.
Even so, if you have actual results from a hypnosis session, whether you believe in hypnosis or not doesn't matter. Your mind did what what it was supposed to do.
This also brings me to another point. Many people think hypnosis is supposed to be a one stop fix it shop. Where people get this idea, I don't know.
How on earth is one session of suggestion expected to replace years of training your mind to think a certain way?
I'll admit sometimes it does, hypnosis is a powerful tool, BUT(!) that doesn't mean that if you go and try a little bit with one hypnotist and fail, that the whole thing is bunk. It may take time and repeated sessions to get the results you want.
That's my rant for today, thanks for reading and as always feel free to upvote or comment.
See you around the block!
Nice post! :-)
