1. HELPS YOU LOSE WEIGHT
Firstly it helps minimize late night snacking, because the longer you remain awake for during the night the more you'll get hungry through the hours and end up having that extra cookie or two or three. Studies have shown that people on average scoff down around 550 extra calories from 11pm-4am. Secondly, studies have proven that people who are well rested burn calories whilst at steady state (not moving), faster than sleep deprived people and burned about 20 percent more calories after eating a meal. When dieting and eating the exact same calories, well rested people will burn more fat than sleep deprived people, while the latter loses fat and muscle. You also burn calories in your sleep; if you weigh 150lb (68kg), for example, you will burn 95 calories per hour you sleep.
2. IMPROVES YOUR APPEARANCE
I guess the term 'beauty sleep' is a plausible term. When you don't get enough sleep, blood vessels expand in your face and creates dark rings under your eyes.
3. HELPS RELIEVE PAIN
A recent study has proven that the more sleep a person gets the less pain they will feel compared to sleep deprived people. Lack of sleep messes with the pain signalling system. They did a study with nine men varying in sleep schedules where the ones who had lack of sleep all rated the highest score on pain compared the ones who had long hours of sleep.
4. HAIR GROWTH
Sleep allows blood flow to flow easily so the more we sleep the more chance we give our hair to receive nutrients we get from food and become stronger and healthier. Stress (caused from lack of sleep) also causes hair loss in some cases.
5. BOOST MEMORY
When you're body shuts down, your memories don't. Your body stores your memories when you sleep and helps you to remember things better. I'm sure you've been told that sleep before tests are important when you were a student. Those nights when you pulled all-nighters for exams to recap on all the information you have just learnt, would probably have been better off if you had some sleep before that exam. You would have remembered everything a lot better.
These are only 5 of the many benefits of sleep. How much you want to bet some of you are reading this at like 12 or 1 in the morning? 😏 Hope you have an amazing night steemit friends! See you in the next post. 😌
