Did you know there are people who make conscious efforts to be infected with HIV? This may seem crazy, but it happens more often than you may imagine.

People who consciously try to get infected with HIV are called bug-chasers. In their lingo HIV is called "the gift."

There are said to be a variety of reasons why people may want to get infected with the dreaded virus. One is paranoia. Some people who have engaged in risky sexual activity want to be done with the uncertainty in their mind by ensuring they achieve a positive diagnosis. Still others wish to be a part of close-knit communities of positive people. Still others chase the virus out of guilt regarding past actions.
