Now that kids are back in school, the probability of your children coming home with lice is a lot higher. A lot of people believe that the only ones who get lice are people who are dirty. That is not the case. Everyone can get lice. The only reason why people have come up with this thinking is, kids continue to get lice due to unclean living spaces. Once lice is introduced to an area, it needs to be cleaned well to get rid of it all.
The Many Ways to Keep Things Fresh:
-Everything in bedrooms needs to be bagged up and set outside in the hot sun for at least a week
-Empty the vacuum after each use and remember to vacuum a lot
-Clean all clothes and linens on high heat in washer
-Sanitize all hair brushes and clips with bleach
My Experience Finding Lice
Last week I was doing a lot of back to school haircuts at my salon. A little girl got into my chair and was very excited to get her hair cut. I parted her hair and saw some small yellowish dots in her hair. The worst was near her ear. Her grandma said, “Hey I was wondering, what is the best shampoo to use to get the lint out of hair?” I kept looking at the yellow dots in her hair, and they started moving! My freaking stomach dropped, and I froze in fear. I said to her grandma calmly, “This isn't lint, I think this is lice.” She was shocked but reacted as if she knew the truth the whole time. She said, “Again? She always comes home from her mom's house with lice!” I had to refuse her as a client until she treats her lice.”
It brought me back to my childhood when I had gotten lice. I felt so bad for this little girl. When I was younger, my parents did foster care. There was a specific foster kid we had that would always come back from parent visits to our house with lice. We got pretty good at getting rid of the lice, but it took a toll on my mother and us kids. Every time I knew the school was having lice checks, I would stay home. I would be so scared that the whole school would find out I had it, so I had my mom look at my hair all the time, and she wouldn't find anything, but I was always scared about getting it.
How to Get Rid of Lice:
-Don't panic! That makes kids worried
-Use Rid shampoo that can be purchased at a grocery store or drug store. I like the fairytales shampoo that can be purchased at an Ulta Beauty.
-Use a lice comb to remove as many eggs as you can
-Always treat lice 2-3 times seven days apart. This way you can kill off the eggs that hatch.
Once you've gotten rid of the lice use tea tree shampoo, it works as a great repellent.
We lace all of the spray bottles we use on our daughter's hair with tea tree oil -- water, detangler, hairspray. The stuff is supposedly a natural lice repellent, and can kill lice and eggs if present. I don't know if it actually works, but it's cheap, easy, and so far, she hasn't had lice yet.

Like the heavy goopy kind you get in a giant bucket? That's crazy, I've never heard of that method before! How long would you leave it on for? I have heard that mayo works too.

Use the gel every day until the lice are no more. It acts like quick dry cement to the lice. They cannot move as they are stuck and their eggs cannot hatch because the gel acts as sealant.
