Lemons are good for your health, but you know it already. Adding them to the water yields number of health benefits. Some of them are:
- 1 - Soothe a sore throat.
- 2 - Flushing out toxins.
- 3 - Aiding in digestion.
etc etc..
Today, we will discuss the right way to drink lemon water and how many slices of a lemon you need to put in that glass of yours.
So the first question arises,
How much lemon should you be using?
According to a nutritionist, incorporating the whole lemon(including the peel) would give you the maximum benefits.
Why the Peel?
Researchers concluded that a lemon peel contains polyphenols that aid in weight loss. Not that they are good for shedding some pounds, they are rich in vitamin C.
Vitamin C is responsible for producing "collagen" in your body. It boosts your immune system and regenerates glutathione which is important for daily detoxification.
Nutritionist suggests adding at least half a lemon(sliced) to 8-10 ounces of water.
So, now you know the quantity you need to add.
What about water? Should the water be cold, warm or hot?
The best practice is adding the slice to warm water. The temperature extracts vitamin C and polyphenols from both the lemon and its peel. Avoid cold water if you don't want to lose all the vitamins. On the other hand, hot liquids have been linked to cancer by World Health Organization.
Go for warm water!
Another thing you would be asking, what's the best time to drink lemon water? Should you drink it before going to bed or right after waking up?
The best time to drink lemon water is after you wake up. When you wake up, your body is extremely dehydrated because you have lost a lot of water during sleep(because of breathing). To overcome what you lost during sleep, drinking lemon water in morning is the best choice.
Although lemon water is good for health but excessive use of it could be dangerous. Lemon water can thin out teeth's enamel. People with high levels of iron in their blood should also limit their lemon water intake, as lemon can increase your body's ability to absorb iron.
