Vitamin A — Another Vegan Myth!

in health •  7 years ago

Vegans are constantly selling this idea that human beings will always convert beta carotene in vegetables into Vitamin A.

Don't buy into this myth!

From plants we cannot get sufficient vitamin A. What we get are carotenoids, such as beta carotene which are not actually vitamin A and a lot of people cannot make the conversion and even if they could it's still not enough, which are not bioavailable or much utilized by the body.

What we need is retinoids in animal products that are bioavailable and utilized by our body and a sufficient source of vitamin A.

The toxic synthetic vitamin A supplements are not good for us and the body doesn't know how to utilize them. Plain and simple - we need animal products for sufficient Vitamin A.

Vitamin A is important for normal vision, the immune system, and reproduction.

Liver is LOADED with Vitamin A. You cannot make thyroid hormones without Vitamin A.

In many cultures liver is known as a sacred and important for pregnant women.

Let's be honest here vegans aren't!

Twenty years ago, we only knew that vitamins existed. It is exciting, people are now figuring out how vitamins work.

The info on liver is interesting. One big problem, the liver concentrates all of the toxins that industrial farms feed their stock. If someone wants liver, they should get organic grass fed liver. I would not eat liver from industrial farms.

As for my snippy comment. I have a great recipe for turning beta carotene into vitamin A: You start by feeding a carrot to rabbit. You then eat rabbit soup.

I agree with you about the liver. I like that idea about carrots! Never had rabbit soup though. I was thinking about raising some rabbits but they are too low in fat for my diet. Maybe someday in the future...
