Here's my EXPERIENCE.
I've been doing some intermittent fasting for about a year now but lately I am not seeing the benefits of it as I'm currently gaining weight and not losing body fat. Even with eating OMAD when I sleep or upon waking up my BG rises and keytones are very low. I believe the insulin response has discontinued my fat burning and autophagy while I sleep. These have been my typical morning numbers that I do not like.
I've been doing some extended fasts also and for three consecutive months I've done a four day water fast. The last month I really struggled with hunger for all four days. It was a tough situation and I don't believe I'm getting all the benefits I'd like out of that either.
I just finished Dr. Jason Fung's book The Obesity Code and I learned some great information about alternate day fasting. According to Dr. Jason Fung it has shown to lower BG during fasting periods and reduce insulin response. This sounds perfect for what I'm trying to do which is to lower my BG upon waking up. I already tried everything else that I could think of to do so. Before I actually read The Obesity Code I was talking about my high morning BG in a facebook group and someone there told me about how they had the same issue and they began alternate day fasting and it really helped.
I've decided that instead of doing a four day water fast at the end of January I'd rather at the beginning of February try out alternate day fasting. I believe this is going to be ample for my bodies needs. Perhaps the perfect key to get back into fat burning and autophagy.
There was a study showing that after 70 days of alternate day fasting people were losing 6% body fat and had zero muscle loss. My goal is to replicate this study and see if I can go a whole 70 days. Starting February 1st from the time I wake up until the time I go to sleep I will not eat anything every other day. The days I do eat I will feast. According to Dr. Jason Fung this cycle is what keeps one burning fat over time and has the greatest potential for autophagy. I should see my BG lower that second day while I sleep as it does during my extended fasting periods.
On fasting days it's going to be water only unless I need to wean myself from coffee in the beginning. I'll drink a little, black only, when I feel I need it. I'll be honest it's going to be tough to go without coffee an entire day, or rather 35 days out of the next 70 days as much as I love my BPC. And seeing that my daily consumption has increased over the past month, and I haven't gone without it in 30 days since my last four day extended fast.
I will continue to work out most days Monday through Friday. I just can't wait to experience the higher levels of growth hormone that is said to take place during a 24 to 36 hour fasted state. Recently I did some research on dry fasting and I'm going to throw that in the mix as well and go periods of time eliminating water. It's said to increase fat burning up to 3 times that of a water fast. I'm looking forward to see if I lean out and build muscle mass at the same time.
I'll come post the results in the upcoming weeks and let you know how it goes. I hope you're all doing what you can to maximize your health. As always please follow along for updates, up-vote and re-steem this post if you would please. Thank you and have an awesome day.
