Is it possible to keep this system?

in health •  8 years ago

Hi , I'm an italian biologist who worked for pharmaceutical company in the past.  So I know a lot about drugs and the use or abuse of,  by healthcare.

To me it's hard to explain this concept, but I wonder since i worked for them, how it could be credible for these company claiming to fight deseases and disorder and in the meanwhile treating people like customers.

In fact, as you can see, each human being is considered by these companies, not a patient, but a simple customer and if you keep in your mind this fact, it's clear  it should be dangerous for human beings to be treated like customers  that would mean that the principle aim of a pharmaceutical company could be not healing people, but rather creating a network of customers which is ready to purchase everything they sell to. That is a question which is really delicate, because you've to take in consideration that all people use to trust physicians and for that reason every word which is said by the latters is a law for the formers.

If somebody has this power in his own hands and a company promise him a lot of money or career improvement, don't you think that could be  very hard for him to have professional ethics?

Secondly another question automatically arises: if the system permits private companies  to sell products and make profit, for what reason would a pharmaceutical company have the need to improve his research to heal people, whom once healed, probably will stop buying drugs? If you think in depth about this issue, it's a really  thorny situation.  Companies might not make any profit if their products would be capable to heal people utterly.

In fact a patient once healed, would quit to be a customer, and since as we all know, behind the most of research there's an investment of these companies, it's really tricky to think how a company might aim to reach an objective against his own interest. In view of this, it's probably utopic to hope that this system can help people to really improve his own health. isn't it?

thanks a lot, haster!

For many years now--since I learned the truth at 15, in fact--I've called the "health care system" what it actually is: "A chemical-based symptom manipulation engine designed for the profit of corporations."

Being in the pharmaceutical (chemical) industry before, you understand what I mean from a wholly deeper level, as you're probably quite well aware that the vast majority of "synthetic chemicals" we call "medicine" today have originally been found in plants. Of course, if people were told that, they'd eventually come to the conclusion that "Hey! We could just grow the damned plants ourselves, and we wouldn't see so many people going bankrupt just TO NOT DIE!"

I've seen too many people die purely for the enrichment of corporations, governments, and some "famous douchebags" who really couldn't care less about anyone else but themselves.

If I had any say in the matter--and it's become VERY clear to me that I do not, nor will I ever--I'd just set up a greenhouse to grow natural plants, without artificial chemicals, and educate the people about their use. I'd make my money selling the seedlings or seeds, and through the education of the people.

You see, unlike the chemical companies and governments, I understand the very basic business concept that dead customers are not conducive to repeat business. If you actually work to keep them alive, there's at least a 50/50 chance that they'll return in the future. Based on elementary mathematics, 50/50 is far better than a "0% guarantee."

I agree you about everything you 've said, but the main problem i want to highligth is that, at present, this actual system allows these corporations to gain money on disease rather than on healing and that is a serious question which deserves to be solved as soon as possible. If pharmaceutical companies gets profit from disease it's probably impossible to think the companies itself aim to heal the patients as a principle target, they certanly will tend to find out solutions to give a better life to the patients but not the healing at all. Is it true?

We need to further develop the holistic health approach as the drugs are killing people, more than many other causes of death. Not only that, the side affects cascade into more health issues that they prescribe more drugs that then cascade into more health issues... ad infinitum.

Yeah... another bug of the system is that every physician represents the man in the middle , so that the more they prescribe the more benefit they get by pharma corporations, so for that reason it's very tricky to come out from this matter.

DO you remember when the doctor used to come to your house, or sit with you in his office and really look you over?

I rarely visit my doctor, however i can see what you mean :-)
