Finnish scientists have found that black currant can lower blood sugar. Work published in the British Journal of Nutrition.
Researchers from the University of Eastern Finland conducted a study on 26 volunteers who did not suffer from chronic diseases. Volunteers - 22 women and 4 men had to spend the night without food, and during the day they ate dishes with sugar and blackcurrant. Experts measured the volunteers' blood sugar levels before and after meals.
According to the experiment, blackcurrant fruits are able to normalize blood sugar levels after a meal. So, if you eat a sugar-containing dish and then eat a handful of currants, your blood sugar will not rise critically. This is due to the fact that the substances contained in currants - anthocyanins and glycosides - reduce the level of glucose.
According to studies, only 75 g of blackcurrant a day is enough to normalize blood sugar levels as well as reduce the risk of diabetes. What's more, eating blackcurrant with a small amount of sugar does not cause harm to health. I have already explained to you why the harmful effects of sugar are eliminated in fruit preserves. But that doesn't mean we can consume sugar with fruit without moderation.
Do not exceed 5 teaspoons a day, white sugar (added), provided that you are counting other products containing added sugar.
