We are seeing more Measles cases globally unfortunately. Measles vaccination coverage is down, and Measles vaccination catch-up programs have been disrupted.

The US might see its own Measles outbreaks as there is wide regional variance in Measles vaccination coverage here. 7 states and DC are below 90% coverage for Measles.

Ukraine had an ongoing Measles vaccination catch-up program that was disrupted by the pandemic and Russian invasion. Their national Measles vaccination rate is in the 80s.

Ukraine's vaccination coverage for 2021. As you can see for a number of diseases, Ukraine is below the herd immunity targets.

In particular, polio vaccination is below the herd immunity target, and last year Ukraine had its first polio outbreak in 6 years. The Russian invasion occurred right as a mass polio vaccination campaign was starting.

Also, measles vaccination rates are below target. Ukraine has been dealing with large measles outbreaks since 2017.

The Russian invasion is likely to only make both vaccination coverage and outbreaks worse in Ukraine and the region.
