Nothing has ever changed my physical activity level or inspired me to push myself as much as rock climbing has!
Every time I set foot out toward a crag (that's what we call the area of rocks/walls that we'll be climbing), it is a completely different and new experience. Even if it's the same place I've seen a hundred times, I never know how my body and mind will work together to get me up (or not get me up) the wall.
Climbing is the only form of exercise I've experienced that is completely dependent on my mental state. If I'm sad, mad, nervous or not feeling well, I won't be able to perform, no matter how hard I tell my body to do it. On the other hand, when my body and mind work together, I've been able to overcome fears and push myself beyond what I would have ever thought I was capable of doing!!
I highly recommend trying rock climbing to anyone who is looking for an adventurous sport that will take you to new places, introduce you to a rich culture and allow you to push yourself to do things you'd never imagine that you were capable of!
Thanks to @tatjanastan for putting this competition together! I'm excited to see what others are doing out in nature for their health!

Agreed. One of my favorite things about climbing is that I often push myself harder than in other physical activity, but it does not really feel like it, because it is so enjoyable. That said you and @mstafford are right about headspace.

One of my favorite things about outdoor climbing is that connection between the body and the mind.
Getting into that state of zen or flow, and just feeling all the moves come together almost effortlessly, or smoothly with great effort even, is one of the most satisfying things.
And you're right, on the flip side, it's really really hard sometimes to climb when you're in the right headspace -- which just places extra emphasis on being aware of your state of mind, and also putting healthy mindfullness practice into your exercise calendar as much as strength workouts.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this -- I would have to agree!

Yeah, I associate rock climbing with adrenaline jumps and obtaining quick strenght. I did it only several times in my life, though. I mostly did eee... hillwalking? Is this the right name? :)
Thank you for this encouraging post. Hopefully I'll go to the mountains in some near future, I'd love that not only for the sport but also artistic inspiration.
All the best,
Klaudia
