In my experience of working with marginalized communities, the barangay health workers are always the ones at the forefront of their communities' relief, recovery, and development. They do more than just health work. Their extensive understanding of the culture and context, and their detailed knowledge about each family within their assigned areas make them valuable community leaders and partners of LGUs and NGOs in consultation, programming, and implementation. They are mostly women and they actively represent community members in various mandated committees.
Happy to have learned a lot from them. Mabuhay ang ating barangay health workers!
Tje health workers are the frontliners in implementing the programs of DOH they should be given much better compensation.
