The Twins Eat The Most Time-Consuming Snacks EversteemCreated with Sketch.

Do I talk too much about food?

... probably because preparing it is one of the things that takes up most of my day. And I happen to love good food!

I mentioned earlier that the twins are eating a lot of new foods. They love lentils! I've made sweet potato-lentil-rice balls, mujaddarah, pumpkin-lentil soup, and they've loved all of them!

They also happen to love two of the most time-consuming snacks in the history of baby food...

I was Skyping with Matt's mom and she recommended a snack that she used to feed her kids when they were little. I love this snack too, so I decided to give it a try!

POPCORN!

Because they don't have teeth, I can only give them the parts without the hard kernel. That means pulling them apart then giving them only the soft parts.

Believe me, it wasn't easy keeping up with two girls excited to have a new snack!

I ended up finishing up the bag while they were napping.

This was the result of my efforts ... LOL ... Not much for about an hour's worth of work.

But the girls loved having it later for a snack and it was so much easier to just give them handfuls than pieces at a time. We've had popcorn several times since. @ironmanmatt really needs to come back so he can help with the popcorn-kernel-shucking process! :D

A couple days later our friends took us to the store and treated the girls to some fruits and veggies. One of the fruits they haven't tried yet ... GRAPES!

Because of the choking hazard, I pull the grapes apart and peel them first. I've become quite the grape-peeling pro! Yet again, it is probably one of the most time-consuming snacks they've had...

Will they be foodies like their mommy?

... or eaters like their daddy?

Squirt loves grilled cheese. She's just like her daddy, @ironmanmatt. He can't wait to come back and have some with her.

One of my favorites ... guacamole! Both girls love it. Thankfully avocados are on sale because we've been eating them up! Of course, I see lots of sharing and double batches in my future ;)

Thanks for following along on our journey!

We're counting down the days until Matt comes back. (Well, he needs to book his flight before that can really happen.) But we've already started talking about all the things we want to do with him when he gets back. I'll have to share some of the things we miss most in a later post ...

Until next time!

LOL. "shelling" popcorn. That is a new one for me. The wonderful things we will do for our kids! I love it!

Have a great weekend!

Later

Haha, yes! And I never thought I'd be one of "those parents." Since it was my mother-in-law suggestion, I told her she needs to come visit and shell popcorn with me ;)

hey, hopefully she will take you up on that offer! :-)

Aaawwww the girls are sooo cute! I think Squirt's gonna be an eater like me.lol I'm glad the girls also like avocados! Tia loves them so much. Do you also have Cerelac puffs sold in there? Tia loves them too. I think the girls might also like them. And there's this puffs also which we buy at Healthy Options store that the girls might find interesting. I'm not sure if this is the exact brand but it looks like this:

It comes with different flavors.

I love the age when you can experiment with their food and introduce new tastes. My boys are older now (13 and 10 years old) and they rarely even like the same thing, One loves fish and vegetables and the other likes meat, meat and more meat! It is amazing since we never cooked separate food for them, they always ate our varied diet.

Isn't that funny? My sister and I were like that too. We're only a year apart, but we were night and day different. Of course, it worked out well ... we could always share lunches and eat what the other didn't want! :D (Not that my parents let us do that at home though) LOL

I've noticed that my girls have different preferences already! Squirt is sensitive to textures so I can't switch it up too much at a time. She can handle one new texture a time and doesn't like switching back and forth. She loves cheese and bread. Squish, on the other hand, prefers veggies. But overall, she's a pretty easy eater.

My grandmother always insisted on us clearing our plates and my sister and I used to help each other out - I ate her meat and she ate my veggies. I had forgotten about that!

Sweet! Don't you love watching their enthusiasm (or disgust) for first foods?I wonder the same about my little boy. Foodie like mama or eater like Daddy! I love that my baby is going for all the healthy foods

It is a lot of fun! And my twins have completely different reactions. Squish will let me put just about anything in her mouth and eat it. Squirt wants to touch it, mash it up with her fingers and then just taste it. Once she knows she likes it, she can't get enough!

What are some of your favorite snacks/meals to feed your little one? I'm always looking for (easy) inspiration! :D

We have a fantastic natural mom and author here in South Africa who has written a book "Mila's Meals" about First Foods. More specifically catering for sensitive or allergic children. I think the book is available internationally so have a look.

My little boy tries pretty much everything but he's got definite preferences. And some interesting tastes; lemon and garlic! Because we farm orgnanically and I make everything from our produce he tries very diverse foods. He loves bone broth and fruit smoothies and goats milk yoghurt. They may be time consuming but I make in bulk and freeze in small portions.
