Growing up we always had trouble gaining weight. No matter what we ate or how much, we could barely gain a pound. We seemed to only be growing taller. Our doctor even told us to drink milk shakes every night... not the typical words to hear from a doctor, lol. After many doctor appointments and many blood tests there were no answers. We still couldn't figure out why we couldn't gain weight and left it with "we have a fast metabolism".
It was starting to become more of a problem as we started to get older. We developed stomach issues, which left us feeling unwell. Sydney had bloating and stomach cramps, while Ashley developed acid reflux, which affected her sleep. We couldn't completely figure out what was contributing to our stomach issues but knew it had to be related to the food we were eating. Our mom always made healthy meals and bought healthy food but we should of not have eaten some of the sugary snacks that we always loved. We did some research and knew it was time to change our diets. We first tried eliminating dairy, and started to feel better. We started to gradually gain some weight because the dairy wasn't irritating our stomachs anymore. Something else we tried was switching to all organic and natural foods, which really increased our energy levels and decreased our anxiety. Recently we cut out all meat and have noticed major improvements in our skin, considering we dealt with acne for several years. The foods we consume in our diets are a lot of fruits and vegetables and healthy fats, such as avocados, nuts, and vegan lean protein. We are making sure that we get all the nutrients we need to maintain a healthy lifestyle. On top of all of this we went to a few acupuncture sessions, which also played a role in healing our bodies. Acupuncture is something to really consider if you haven't already and we're usually not one for needles.
As we are still pretty thin, we are at a healthy weight now, and feel so much better. We really recommend switching your diet if you are dealing with any health-related issues that you may not even think are diet related.
