The anniversary of the Notre-Dame de l'Assomption parish of Hearst was celebrated Monday at the Cathedral of Hearst, during a Chrism Mass celebrated by the Bishop of the Diocese, Bishop Robert Bourgon.
The event included priests from the various parishes of the diocese of Hearst.
The parish Our Lady of the Assumption was founded in 1919 by the first bishop of the region, Bishop Joseph Hallé.
Previously, the community was served by missionaries. From 1912 to 1917, priests from the diocese of Haileybury came once a month. The Oblate Fathers took over the mission for the next two years.

According to the history of the parish, the construction of the first church began in the fall of 1919 and ended in early 1920.
This church was used until the day it was partially destroyed by fire in 1951.
