‘I am not a victim!’ — Mumbai acid attack survivor’s heart-touching story goes viral

in heart-touching •  7 years ago

The story of a young girl who faced acid attack when she was two has gone viral. Shared by the popular Facebook page Humans of Bombay, Shabbo, a Mumbai resident, was apparently two years old when half of the acid that her father poured on her mother fell on her face. She then grew up at an orphanage, where she was ‘pampered with a lot of love and attention.’ But more than anything else, it is the sheer grit and courage that reflects through her words that seem to strike a chord with people who have been sharing her story widely on the Internet.
While horrifying incidents of the kind of acid attacks are commonly known to mar people’s lives and their dreams, Shabbo was determined that she will not let an incident from the past control her decisions. Initially she struggled a little to make friends in college, but she realised it was all in her mind. Eventually she ended up creating the happiest memories of her life with the friends she made there.
